Sid Balsam Bashers

The Sid Bashers group

Friday 7 June 2024

Time: drop-in between 15:00 and 17:00

Location: The Byes, downstream of Annie’s Bridge. SY12838 88159

The Sid Balsam Bashers group was formed ten years ago as a Sidmouth in Bloom initiative to control the Himalayan balsam in and around the River Sid. The group has managed to contain the problem downstream from Sidford, but they need more volunteers to help clear areas further upstream. This work is vital to keep indigenous species thriving along our rivers and adjoining land as well as to prevent balsam spreading even further afield.

Come along to this drop-in event to discover why Himalayan balsam is such a threat and what you can do about it. You will have the opportunity to go on a short stroll upriver to see if you can spot the balsam and maybe have a go at bashing it. All children will need to be accompanied by a responsible adult. The paths may be muddy so please wear appropriate footwear.
