The Rid Sid Catchment Scorecards For 2024 Have Now Been Received From WRT. The Cards And Notes Are Below.
WRT CSI Sid Score Card.
The B Score is good news for the Sid Valley. Thanks are due to our Citizen Scientists who monitor monthly, also our skilled land managers who are faced with challenging terrain, easily eroded soils and springs which can keep some areas saturated year-round. The crystal-clear river water turns red after heavy rain as soil is lost from fields and damaged river banks. The Poor Phosphate score is misleading because we monitor 4 places on Woolbrook stream which has consistently high phosphates. The other tributaries are each monitored in one location and generally phosphate readings range from Fair to Good.
WRT CSI Score Card [Lower Sid]
The name is misleading as these readings are taken on Bickwell Brook which runs through Glen Goyle, the stream running behind Knowle Drive then into an open culvert alongside Cotmaton Road and in addition Salcombe Regis Stream. The village sewage treatment works frequently spills untreated effluent into the stream. A high proportion of run off joins the sewerage system, overloading the treatment works. SWW are rectifying this. The source of Knowle Drive Stream pollutants remains unidentified. SWW have investigated and say the source cannot be attributed to their assets.
We need to address the water quality problems identified by our water quality monitors.
